MWESE was so excited to host everyone during our last event of the semester, cookie and gingerbread house decorating! This was the perfect opportunity to take our minds off final projects and exams, spend time together, and enjoy a well-deserved sweet treat.

MWESE was so excited to host this philanthropy event where we decorated paper bags for Kids Food Basket, an organization dedicated to fighting childhood hunger. These bags, once donated, will be filled with healthy food and snacks and given to families in need. We had an amazing time giving back to the community, while enjoying some snacks, and getting to know fellow MWESE members.

MWESE was thrilled to welcome Shannon Lapsley, the Director of the Detroit Tigers Foundation and the Detroit Red Wings Foundation for Ilitch Sports + Entertainment. She has held various roles within baseball with the Augusta GreenJackets and the Baltimore Orioles, and before her current role, she was the Senior Director of Development and Marketing for YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee. 

MWESE was excited to host a LinkedIn Workshop led by Brooke Donovan, the Sport Management Immersion & Career Development Coordinator at the Kinesiology Career Development office! In this workshop, Brooke shared valuable insights into LinkedIn’s role in building your professional brand and offered tips for crafting a strong profile that stands out to employers in the sports industry.

We were excited to welcome Kate Valchine, a Corporate Partnerships Activation Manager for 313 Presents and a certified life coach. She has various experiences within event planning and corporate partnerships as well as valuable insight about self discipline and mindfulness through life coaching.

We had a wonderful time at our first social event of the semester where members were grouped into teams and competed in a fun game of Jeopardy! From categories like “Iconic Females in Entertainment” to “Michigan Sports”, this was a great opportunity for members to introduce themselves in a lighthearted game while showing off their skills.

MWESE was thrilled to host an in-person panel with two industry professionals: Anna Britnell, the director of Champions Circle, and Nadine Dabaja, a past attorney and sports marketing agent for Valiant and current agent for WME. This event provided a holistic view of both the university collective side and agency side of NIL and the sport industry in general.

MWESE was excited to put on a new event called “Asking Questions 101,” which encouraged members to come up with meaningful questions for conversations with mentors and professionals on the fly. We went over the basics of formulating questions and shared our favorite questions to ask professionals in preparation for the rest of the in-person events this semester.

We were ecstatic to kick off our industry professional mentorship program! Our members participating learned about the program before receiving their professional mentor and beginning their initial contact. We’re so excited to hear how our members grow throughout the year as they foster their relationships with their mentors!

We were so happy to kickoff the Inner Mentorship program with a meet and greet of the mentors! Pairs of mentors sat at different tables as potential mentees and rotated around the tables for "speed dating." Mentees then ranked their choices for mentors for the year. We can't wait to see the relationships these pairings foster! 

We were so excited to kick off the semester with our annual Welcome Back Fleece & Thank You event! We made blankets for the organization Fleece and Thank You, which ensured the blankets make their way to children in need at local hospitals. The event’s second half was a pizza social with new and returning members. We were happy to support a great cause while strengthening our MWESE community!

We were super excited to collaborate with the Wolverine Support Network (WSN) to host the last event of the semester! This event was focused on helping build the MWESE community through a guided discussion led by WSN representatives. As our members head off into summer break, internships, or jobs, we hope to take this time to learn more about overcoming stress and how to deal with any external & internal pressures we may encounter.

We were so happy to host a panel with our very own MWESE Seniors! They discussed a variety of things such as past internships they’ve had, advice for time at Michigan, and unforgettable undergrad memories.

We were so excited to welcome Mita Mallick to talk about incorporating DEI into our professional lives! Mita is currently the Head of Inclusion, Equity and Impact at Carta. Mita is also a Wall Street Journal & USA Today Best Selling Author, with her book Reimagine Inclusion: Debunking 13 Myths to Transform Your Workplace. She is a contributing writer to many publications such as the Harvard Business Review, and had previous experience as the Head of Diversity and Cross Cultural Marketing for Unilever.

We were so happy to welcome Lindsey Aprahamian as a speaker! Lindsey is working for the NBA in Corporate and Constituent Communications (PR). While at Michigan, Lindsey was a member of MWESE and served as the Co-Director of Membership. Lindsey also interned with Michigan Athletics as a Storyteller, and following graduation, Lindsey was a Digital Editorial Intern with the New York Giants.

We loved collaborating with the other SM student organizations to welcome Eric Robeznieks and Conner Pierce! They spoke to us about adaptive sports at Michigan and beyond, enlightening us about its significance in our community and in sport business.

Our first professional development workshop of 2024! The focus of this event was interview prep, starting with a brief presentation of interview tips and then a chance for members to practice interviewing with their peers.

We were ecstatic to host Tara Chapman in person! Tara is a JD candidate at Michigan Law School and is also currently serving as a Legal Intern with the Detroit Pistons. Prior to her current role with the Pistons, Tara served as a Legal Intern with BSE Global.

We were so excited to welcome Elizabeth Godek as an in-person speaker! Elizabeth is the Director of Premium Seating for Michigan Stadium, Crisler Arena, and Yost Ice Arena. Before joining Michigan Athletics, Elizabeth worked in the NBA as the Senior Client Experience Specialist for the Cleveland Cavaliers and as the Vice President of Premium and Membership Development for the Detroit Pistons.
